EMERGE is a non-profit organization that aims to support and empower our community through various programs and initiatives. Our mission is to provide juveniles and minoritized populations with support, resources, and skill-building programs.
We understand that a fresh start often comes with a new perspective brought about by an encounter. Therefore, we offer a wide range of programs that provide opportunities for young people to create a positive change in their lives and start anew.
NTL provides mentorship and tutoring services to students on school premises. The program offers weekly check-ins with students, both individually or in small groups, to monitor their progress. We provide a dedicated space for students to concentrate on their school assignments with a teacher and a counselor or social worker present to assist as needed. Additionally, we provide social-emotional learning support to students as required to ensure that they have all the necessary resources and guidance to succeed academically and personally.
Emerge is a girl's processing group that focuses on the adolescent experience with difficulties managing academic and personal issues. The topics range from school performance and social conflicts to the task of developing boundaries and fostering relationships inside and outside of school. In this group setting, an adult woman guest sharer is invited each week to transparently present the group’s topic of the day through their personal bout with that topic during their adolescent years.
Service will include weekly check-ins with students individually or in small groups.
The Exchange is an intervention program that believes fresh starts are possible and come with new opportunities. By definition, it is the act of giving or taking one thing in return for another. This program recognizes that a clean slate often comes with a new perspective by way of an encounter. The encounter that initiates this program’s opportunity is the “Presence encounter”. This setting is one in which the presence of 45 men of color ask 15 specially selected incoming 7th graders to think about accepting the grace of a new presence 2023-2024. A new way of being and relating. The Presence encounter will provide the initial push and the fellows will continue to walk it out with those accepting 7th graders, for the remainder of the school year.
The TENS is a year-round Service-learning program that offers three program modules. The initial module starts in our Summer Semester and continues with Fall and Spring school semesters. Each participant will complete over 25 community service-learning hours each semester (totaling 75 hours) and can earn possible stipends throughout the school year. In this program students will spend time in class and in many hands-on work sites outside the classroom. Service will include weekly check-ins with students individually or in small groups.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a federal program that helps supplement the diets of people with low income by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost. USDA provides 100% American-grown USDA Foods and administrative funds to states to operate TEFAP.
EMERGE picks up and distributes food on a weekly basis to individuals who are unable to pick up for themselves.
